History

ROBERT ALLAN II, originally named SCOTTIE, was first owned by Mrs. Henry Grebe. Built in the depression, she kept a skeleton crew employed at the Grebe yard located North of Belmont across the river from River View. Purchased by Solomon Katz.

 

In 1946, she was renamed for his two young boys Robert and Allan. She was moored in Belmont Harbor for the next forty years. When Solomon died in 1972, he left instructions the boat was not to be sold until “Dutch,” (which see elsewhere) the paid Captain, died. Robert and Allan had the pleasure of cruising again on the Chicago River on the boat named for them in 2016,
seventy years after their father purchased the boat.

 

ROBERT ALLAN II was purchased in 1995 by the current owner after spending ten years in storage. On May 31, 1995 she was the last boat launched at Active Marine. She now has the duty of taking the Commodores of the Chicago Yacht Clubs on their annual cruise. In 2005, she served as the platform from which WTTW and Geoffrey Baer filmed their decennial documentary of Chicago waters. She is one of the oldest private yachts still floating in Chicago.
