History

Originally named PRINCESS PAT, hull number 233 was built by Harold Armstrong of Winter Park, Florida, beginning in 1984 from a McKie W. Roth Jr. design (1968 revision). Armstrong described the construction as “bronze fastened, white cedar on oak on a mahogany backbone” with a lead keel, a method faithful to traditional working-boat standards. She was launched in 1987 and originally sailed out of Titusville, Florida, where she was listed in the Friendship Sloop Society Yearbook of that year.

 

The Friendship Sloop is a gaff-rigged work boat developed for lobstering and fishing in the 1880s in Muscongus Bay, Friendship, Maine.

PRINCESS PAT was acquired by the Chicago Maritime Arts Center (CMAC) in 2023 and is now moored at Canal Street Marina in Chicago. She is currently undergoing rip, plank and power restorations and will be used for sail training on Lake Michigan starting summer 2026.
